The Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living administrates the Mobile Meals program and delivers to community members with routes in LaSalle, Peru and Oglesby.
Terri Sparling, Mobile Meals Coordinator
What do you get?
Two meals are delivered to the home each weekday, one cold and one hot. We do not deliver on weekends or on holidays.
The program has been serving residents of La Salle, Peru and Oglesby since the early 1960s when a group of women affiliated with then-People's Hospital (currently IVCH) and The Red Cross, saw a need for it. Meals are made at IVCH and IVCIL volunteers deliver the meals to the homes. The program serves 55 people on four routes.
What Does it Cost?
The cost is $4.00 per day. There are no other restrictions to apply except that you must live in LaSalle, Peru and Oglesby.
To sign up for meals delivered to your home, Terri Sparling can be reached at IVCIL by calling 815-224-3406.
How Can I Help?
Meals are prepared at Illinois Valley Community Hospital and delivered on weekdays; 60 volunteers alternate delivery duty.
IVCIL is always looking for delivery drivers who can volunteer an hour twice a month. If interested, contact Terri Sparling at 815-224-3406 or Lesley Gonigam, IVCIL's Associate Director at 815-224-3126 ext. 214.
